Week seven almost over already. Time really does go fast in this class. During this weeks meeting we discussed our lesson plan template. The template looked very user friendly and covers all of the elements. It's good to have a form like this as a go to. This Friday I will be meeting with my clinical observation teacher and I'm. Very excited to meet her. It is always great to meet someone and her their perspective on what teaching is to them. I'm also. Very excited about teaching a lesson plan to her class. This week I tried to post a variety of information on twitter. The image I posted about a teacher funded classroom was just to make you think. This may be an obstacle we will all face. I've met with many teachers in this course in clinical who put their own income into their classroom. In some cases teachers were unable to provide their students with a resources they needed due to lack of funds. I want everyone who views this picture on my twitter to think "What can I do to help fix this?" My answer to you is advocate for your students and fellow teachers. There are teachers out there who just accept this as a norm. We as future teachers can not. It is our responsibility to provide our students with the best education as possible. So attend meetings, vote, and get out their and advocate for change. I've referenced here teaching standard one " Teachers advocate for school and students." Some of the forms provided in blackboard this week were very helpful. The DOK firm for critical thinking is very useful. I can use this in class. It questions claims and asks you to back yourself up with evidence. Evidence based practice is common in many different careers such as teachers, nurses, and law enforcement just to name a few. It also mentions describe and explain an outcome that is expected from students after learning ( see Blooms Taxonomy). I really enjoyed A Few Lenses of Social Studies article it gives the viewpoint of many different occupations and how they learn as well. I can see myself using this in my lesson plan. It's important to ask those critical questions at the bottom of each element of social studies. See everyone in class next week.
Very powerful blog here. It is very true that most teachers put their own money into their classroom and students. It is hard not to when funding for most schools is not adequate enough. But you are correct in that we need to be strong advocates for our schools and fellow teachers as well as our students.
ReplyDeleteChris,
ReplyDeleteDOK is awesome. Too often, teachers just go through the motions and assume students are really thinking - DOK is a way to ensure this is happening. Keep on researching this!
